System Tray Icon

The CommTraffic tray icon can be customized to display the tool tip window with basic traffic statistics when you move the mouse over the icon. You can configure this window by right-clicking on the CommTraffic tray icon and selecting the Icon menu item. The Appearance tab allows you to customize the tray icon view. If you would like the icon to be displayed as a graph, please check the As Graph checkbox. After this option is selected, you can additionally customize the icon view by enabling the corresponding options and configuring parameters. If you would like the icon to be displayed as a graph only when the adapters you selected for monitoring at the Adapters page are connected, please check the Only when connected checkbox.

The Traffic type field allows you to select the type of traffic (Incoming, Outgoing, or Summary) that will be represented by the graph. Please see the Monitoring Traffic
chapter for more information on configuring the traffic graph appearance.

Select the Tool Tip tab to customize the tooltips. Select the None radio button if you would like to disable tooltips. Select the Standard radio button to use standard system tooltips or select the Advanced radio button and click Customize in the Icon Options window. In the Advanced Tool Tip window you will be able to configure the number and type of counters that will be displayed when the mouse is moved over the tray icon. Each item on the drop-down list has a number in brackets that represents the number of counters to display. The counter names are listed below. To add a new counter, click on the Add button and select it from the list. If you would like to remove a counter, select it with a mouse click and click on the Delete button. If you would like to remove all counters, click on the Clear button. You can move the counters up and down in the list by clicking on the corresponding button.

You can adjust the time interval before the tool tip window is shown or hidden by changing values in the Show delay and Hide delay fields in the Icon Options window.

The Actions tab allows you to configure CommTraffic behavior when clicking on the icon. The On icon click configures CommTraffic behavior when you click on it once, and the On icon double-click defines the icon behavior when you double-click on it:

None – no action is performed.
Show ToolBox – the ToolBox window is opened.
Show Floating Monitor – the Floating Monitor window is opened.

Right-clicking on the program icon in the system tray brings up the following menu:

Toolbox – opens the main window of CommTraffic Console.

Floating monitor – opens the Floating Monitor
window.

Start with Windows – when checked, the CommTraffic Console will start automatically when Windows starts; the invisible CommTraffic Service will run on Windows boot-up in any case.

About – shows the About window.

Icon – allows you to change the appearance of the Icon and the actions that it performs when the mouse is moved over it.

Exit – closes the CommTraffic Console.
